If it's part of your skill set you're always going to be "defensively responsible" it's not a switch you can turn on or off. You don't just say ..." I'm gonna let this guy hit me ... Who cares? He can't punch anyway". It doesn't work like that if/when you see a punch coming your natural reaction is to slip it your brain is always thinking self preservation... It's kind of like you can't knock yourself out with a punch. Your brain will always make you take something off the punch.

Nobody said pacquiao was getting destroyed by Algeri. If he didn't get destroyed in any particular round that means Algeri wasn't countering well?
The only thing Algeri can be haven credit for in that fight was the fact that he was able to time Pacquiao coming in and caught him with lead rights a bunch of time. The footage is there see for yourself I'm not going to do the legwork for you.

It's the same punch that got him in trouble with Marquez and eventually ko'd. people with good defense just don't make a habit out of doing that jumping in with their chin out in the air. PAC does it a lot but had other attributes that made up for that flaw. At this point it's just who he is... But to say his defense is great... You're kidding yourself. He's GREAT in other areas ... That isn't one of them.
You've never heard of adjustments before?

If a fighter backs away everytime you feint your left, that means he's not actively trying to counter you, he's actively trying to avoid your left. If he's not actively trying to counter you and backs away from your feints, then there's a higher probability when you throw it, there won't be anything coming back. Algieri was landing some counters, but again, which round was he countering pac so effectively that he was even close to winning a round?

Pacquiao is an offensive fighter first, and against someone that's fighting scared, you can allow yourself to take more chances and lead the fight offensively. That's just common sense.

Pacquiao's defense is exceptional. His stance is perfect, he keeps his defensive stance when he's moving, and he's always moving, his offense is part of his defense, and you throw at the risk of being countered. The punch stats don't tell the whole story but they're not useless either, and the fact remains that in his last 3 fights, Pacquiao has kept his opponents down to an average of 25% landed punches.

I've been saying Pacquiao's defense is underrated for the longest but to say it's exceptional is a giant overstatement. How does he keep his defensive stance whilst moving when he has been countered multiple times off balance? Dammit, I said to myself...don't comment but I did anyway.

Here's what happens when a fighter isn't fighting scared a guess... This is just one counter but it should give you an idea.
