Comments Thread For: Brandon Rios: Pacquiao Still Lacking That Killer Instinct

Manny hasn't lost his killer instinct.. He just has fought dudes 10 to 15 lbs bigger than him every fight.Former champion Brandon Rios is not convinced that Manny Pacquiao has been able to regain that "killer instinct." A few years ago, Pacquiao brutalized opponents in the ring and punished them into submissions. Since the stoppage victory over Miguel Cotto in the fall of 2009, Pacquiao has been unable to put away his opponents inside the distance.
Rios fought Pacquiao in 2013 and lost virtually every round of the fight, but he never felt threatened by Pacquiao in the ring. And Rios wasn't moved by Pacquiao's last fight with Chris Algieri, who the Filipino boxer dropped six times but couldn't put him away.

Hey rios, quit the **** talking, you already got schooled!
Peds? Ask marquez , he is rampant with it. Wonder why hulkquez shows only when the fight has no testing clause. Compare how his power with bradley with testing and his power with rado without testing.
Marquez did not k.o. pac it was Memo who did it.

Goes both ways , compare Mannys power with no testing Hatton Cotto Oscar and Mannys power with testing Bradley Algieri Rios .Hey rios, quit the **** talking, you already got schooled!

Never felt threatened, but he was scared and slow and refusing to fight by the end of the fight. Okay, Rios.
He's right though. Pacquiao before 2010 would never have let a Chris Algieri go 12 with him, especially once he started putting him down. Pacquiao doesn't have to fight that way anymore, and he's happy not to.Comment

Not scared or refusing to fight.....just had no answer. And Rios would rather have thrown down and got knocked out but Manny didn't look to finish.Never felt threatened, but he was scared and slow and refusing to fight by the end of the fight. Okay, Rios.

Whether or not he NEEDS to fight that way......not sure. He fought a few more guys he coulda KO'd before the religious experience. So I'm not buying that. In fact, the only fight vs Marquez I think he was clearly winning was the one that he got KO'd in......
Funny thing though........that agro-aggressive Pacquiao, whirling derbish, getting out of position, over-shooting his target, that is the version I believe Floyd would have had a much easier time with. Because the power is still there....but he made A LOT more mistakes.......
This newer, more controlled version with tighter defense makes the fight much tougher IMHO..........as long as he keeps his volume up, stays in control, and uses his footwork right (Floyd controls space in an insanely good manner...see Maidana 1 & 2 where on off nights he still walked forward any time he wanted and backed Maidana up).....if Manny can get in and out and when Floyd moves forward, slide off to the side to cut Floyd' connect % down to about 35, he's got a real shot.
But he HAS to keep the 60-70 punches per round up, not get discouraged for stretches when he won't find a target, and not be disuaded by sharp counters and keep his defense tight, I think it makes him a much more difficult opponent for Floyd.....just wish he had a better jab.........
With all that said, I think it will be even over 6 rds.........Floyd wil probably find a way to minimize Manny's offense for long stretches and control large portions of rounds. How Manny adjusts will be key.......he should make it a point to finish each round with a flurry and try to pull an SRL vs Hagler and steal a round or two ........otherwise I see an 8-4 DEC, maybe 7-5 on one card....
In 2010 without blinking I'd have said 9-3.......Floyd winning basically 3-11. This fight, if Manny is able to do what I suggest....it will be 3-3 at halfway....Floyd takes 2, then Manny has to win at least 2 of the hardest rounds to take from Floyd, 9-11. If he can, he'll go into 12 with a point lead and likely end up with a win if Floyd gives away the 12th like always.... or he could end up with a tie if Floyd conrols it.....
I think Floyd will believe he has a win going into 12 and won't engage.....if Manny can steal 2 rounds from 7-11, he really has a shot......never would have guessed that until the last Bradley fight...
