danny had a way better chin than everyone thought. zab seriously hurt him in their fight and his defense is pretty much non-existent so logically everyone thought lucas would bomb this guy out.

having said that, it was still a very close fight. danny pissing blood for weeks and getting his mouth guard punched out tells you he has a good poker face too.

Yeah GARSH'ia won that night "Officially" but we know them low blows and unfortunate eye closure (part of boxing however) contributed massively to the fights outcome.

Garcia is a good fighter but his career is being made a mockery of by that cunt Angel and that bigger cuntflap in Haymon.

Lmao straight hate on this site for that young boy... He has a hell of chin that's what its called the punch that knocked his mouth guard out would have knocked anyone else out..what about the rabbit punches Lucas hit him with...nah because ya thought Lucas was invincible because he splattered mike freaking Dallas and an early stoppage of Peterson you so called boxing experts were ready to crown him p4p...danny ate his best shots and so did glass chin Judah and pillow punching Devon, u know why, because they are former champs who weren't the b and c level fighters Matty was whooping on

One thing people can't deny Danny Garcia is his CHIN, that shot that knocked his mouthpiece out would have knocked out any other fighter in that Division! Zab caught him with some good shots as well it he took them all perfectly!

Danny one of those guys who fight his Best against TOP FIGHTERS but fights down to the competition vs Lower Level Competition/Guys he is suppose to destroy.

I expect him to look impressive vs Peterson!

Danny is tough as fuck. He proved it in this fight.

There's another side to it as well though. Most people assumed Lucas had changed his mindset after the Judah and Alexander fights, and was no longer going to box cautiously. He was just going to go let his hands go instead.

The Garcia fight showed that Matthysse's mindset hadn't changed that much at all. His output dropped and he decided to box instead of taking chances when he was faced with another counterpuncher.

That, as well as Danny having better punch resistance than expected, played a big part in the fight going the way it did. Unless Lucas works with a trainer who can make him more confident to initiate exchanges against a counterpuncher, I don't think he'll ever fulfil the potential he has.

you don't think the eye injury factored into all that? because lucas was landing left hooks and slipping punches and was getting the better of danny in the first half, imo. he was clearly a different fighter to me after the 6th.

Garcia is durable as hell, has a good chin, and is very big for 140. This guy supposedly walks around at 170+ while not fighting an cuts a bunch of weight. I don't think anybody can significantly hurt this guy at 140, but at 147 it'll be a different story though.

Garcia is durable but he never got hit with much clean that night,Lucas on the other hand has been hurt several times now including by John Molina who isn't considered a huge puncher

Well Lucas is a good boxer, a very decent boxer for a guy with that sort of power. Yeah the eye injury affected him, but regardless of the eye injury he was still setting himself out to box and not letting his hands go.

The point I'm making is that regardless of whether Lucas was outboxing Danny or not, or whether the eye injury was a major factor or not, the fight still looked dramatically different to what most people expected.

Danny's resilience was part of the reason for that, but Matthysse resorting to boxing when faced with a boxer is the major reason in my opinion. He was cautious and tentative, and not at all the aggressive fighter we'd seen in the previous few fights.

He was still getting the better of it before the eye-injury, because like I said he's well able to box. But if we're asking why the fight didn't look the way we expected it to, it had more to do with Matthysse's surprisingly tentative approach than it had to do with Danny's chin.
