tbh floyd knew thise fighters at those weights had nothing on their punches. he wouldnt do that sht now at '47. lol

You make a good point about the top 10 and honestly I wouldn't argue against it if Mayweather closes his career impressively. When I said unbreakable I was generally talking about the general perception.


For me to argue against those two a lot of it has to do with the multiple belts that there are today. Those usually recognized the top ten were undisputed champions.

For example, when Pacquiao won belts at 135 and 154 he didn't beat the best fighter in the division. In fact he didn't even bear a top jr middleweight at 154.

Mayweather and Pacquiao are the two best fighters in the division. Floyd has to beat Manny to even be in the discussion for top 10. He has to beat the next best guy to put a stamp on being the undisputed best in the division. I believe he is but he has to prove it.

I also look at the weight situation. Robinson fought an all time great middleweight five times while he was still a welterweight winning 4 of them.

Greb, Fitzsimmons, Charles and Langford were middleweights fighting and beating much bigger quality fighters.

A lot of these fighters fought and won well over 100 fights. I know things are different today but it's hard for me to overlook that type of longevity and durability.

Then I look at fightes like Ali who has wins over three opponents who are generally considered in the top ten all time at heavyweight.


Roberto Duran's had an incredible career as did Sugar Ray Leonard.


Archie Moore had more knockouts than any fighter in history (131) and fought at the top well into his forties.

Then you have Fighters like Jofre, the Whitake, Pep, Louis, Monzon, Hagler.

Ranking fighters in an all time list is difficult when you compare fighters on that level because it's subjective. Unless someone is being completely ridiculous I won't argue about it.

Mayweather's career is still in progress and something can happen that would universally place him on the top 10. Mayweather and Pacquiao are two of the best in my lifetime as well.

Yeah man it's hard to compare generations. When I was younger I used to hate hearing that fighters of yester-year were better than fighters of present time. But it's true. That said, I think guys like Mayweather and Pacquiao compete with the best of any era. How much does a win over the other move one up? And is there another opponent out there that could catapult them higher?

The fact he's managed to be undefeated for 18 years whilst being a 11 time world champion in 5 weights, being in the top 10 P4P list since 1998 (many of those are #1), whilst beating over 15 top 5 ranked fighters and about 8 or 9 guys who were ranked #1 in the division, and about 5 top 10 P4P ranked guys aswell is defintely very impressive.

People could say "well that doesn't mean anything, that's easy if you cherry pick" well if it's so easy why has no one else done it?

On his ranking, I would say about Top 30 at the moment. Beating Pacquaio enhance that.

That's being generous Id say high 40's and even that is generous his competition is a joke with a lot of weak champions. The guy pac you love so much would rank lower "sarcasm"

This isn’t a Mayweather-Pacquiao discussion so mods don’t delete. It isn’t a thread about me nor any other poster either so try not to keep take it there.

The poster “Malcolm” made a really good point in another thread that got me thinking. I remember watching Floyd Mayweather fighting Louie Leija on what I believe was the Morales-Zaragoza undercard (wow…who could’ve imagined known what was to come for both of those guys? Shout out to Bob Arum). I also remember being extremely impressed with the number Mayweather did on Genaro Hernandez. I was still in my teens then. 17 years later, I'm a married man. And this dude is still undefeated.

Not a Marciano kind of undefeated either. Even if he had a loss or two, Mayweather’s resume would still trump Rocky’s resume handily. Some would point to fights that could have been made but you can say that about anyone. The fact that he’s remained undefeated in the fights that have been made is ridiculous. Hernandez, Manfredy, Corrales, Castillo, a prime Corley, Judah, Gatti, De La Hoya, Hatton, Marquez, Mosley, Cotto, Alvarez, etc. etc. That is one hell of a resume. And if he faces and beat Pacquiao well then he can call himself whatever he wants. But in the meantime, looking at it objectively in 2015, where do you think Floyd Mayweather stands in the boxing annals? Top 25? Higher? Lower? What would he need to do in order to stamp himself as a top 10 fighter? Or is that out of the question?

To be honest I really don't think so. In retrospect, Margarito isn't a career-defining win for anyone. And if you look at any past great's resume, you'll find champions like that who they missed for one reason or the other.

I actually was excited to watch your video upon the mention of Pacquaio in your post. Disappointing I must say 'cos nothing in that video has a slight semblance to what Manny Pacquaio brings. I 'll tell u this and I 'll tell u slowly, if Mayweather approaches Pacquaio (even this declined version) in the same manner if fought those dudes, he will not see round 7. You can book that. His best bet would be to go into his shell and potshot his way to a decision and even that against a Pacman would be a tall order.
