I've said the same exact thing in the past that fighting Hopkins is a lose-lose. Same with Juan Manuel Marquez.

Froch may be right, beating Hopkins would be great for his legacy, but people would be ever so quick to point out B-Hop's age, and the fact that Kovalev beat him soundly...Losing to him would result in the last chapter of his legacy having a huge hole in it.

I like Froch and have tons and tons of resepect for him, and I mean this in no way as a jab towards him, but isn't it interesting how thin of a line there is sometimes between a 'duck' and a 'wise decision'? Anyway...

Seems like Froch is looking for one more fight that he can definitely win AND looks good on his legacy in retrospect, with his vacating and subsequent dismissal of a Degale fight, a somewhat admittance of Ward's superiority, and now this talk of a Hopkins fight being lose-lose, it seems that way to me.

He is right about B-Hop and Ward though to be fair, and some would say he deserves to bow out with who he pleases after the great fights he has given us...I am interested to see who that is.

I think he might have put it out there about Hopkins just to see what kind of reaction he got. It's been almost overwhelmingly negative so he's decided against it.

Good point. Alot of times it seems to depend upon who is drawing the line and which fighter of the two in question they favor.

Froch already lost to Kessler, who Calzaghe had already beaten and was already fading by the time Froch fought him and went life and death with him in a rematch. If he lost to a 50 year old Hopkins about 8 years after Calzaghe got a win over him, it would definitely look terrible on Froch's part.

I understand though. Froch has fought pretty much everybody and if he's retiring after his next fight then he gets a pass for choosing whichever fight he wants...that's if its 100% a farewell fight.

I'm not sure why he's thirsty for a Chavez Jr. fight though. That fight does nothing for his legacy at all, apart from a decent little earner and a loss to Chavez is probably more damaging to his legacy than a loss against Hopkins.

If it's about legacy as he mentioned in this article, then why doesn't he fight somebody to enhance it? rather than fight somebody where it's only a lose-lose situation which is what the Chavez fight would be, not just a Hopkins fight.

Actually his reasons for not fighting Hopkins are probably even more reason not to fight Chavez. I'd rate a win over Hopkins better than a win over Chavez. And a Loss to Chavez worse than a loss to Hopkins.

Obviously Hopkins worries him more. And god forbid he loses to another fighter Joe beat, long after he beat them. Froch's ego couldn't handle that.

Kovalev didn't take it easy on Hopkins. He wanted to knock him out. It would have been a great accomplishment for him. I don't think mercy is his byword since he has killed someone in the ring and had no regrets over it.

I guess people think because he didn't just throw 50 punches before stopping to take another breath, that is taking it easy. Kovalev fought intelligently, because he had to be careful with the guileful Hopkins. But each and every round he threw hard punches that were intended to hurt and KO Hopkins.

Yeah right, Froch asked around and found out that he lasted all 12 with Kovalev and was like, "I thought he got put to sleep, you mean he finished on his feet? No thanks mate"
