According to legal adviser Gaby Penagaricano, WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) could make a decision regarding his future, and his opponent, by next week.
Cotto captured the WBC title last June with a one-sided drubbing of Sergio Martinez. There were serious negotiations to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on May 2nd. Those negotiations fell apart a few weeks ago. Canelo is now contracted to face James Kirkland, potentially on the same May date.
Cotto has been mentioned as a possible "Plan B" opponent for Floyd Mayweather Jr., who is currently involved in serious negotiations to face Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd.
