Golovkin's boxing skills are really underrated.

    Reaching as usual.

Stevens was a 21-22 year old kid when he got upset by Primera, that's allowed to happen. Same way Ward nearly got stopped at the same age by Boone (if there had been more than 20 seconds left in the round Ward would've had his first loss).

Against N'Dam, Stevens was swinging wild and got reaching out of desperation when N'Dam caught and dropped him. Very different context to how the Golovkin fight went down.

But, yes, I agree: Ward is able to frustrate him -- by excessive holding and wrestling (accepted by the ref), Ward would prevent Golovkin from moving the way he wants to in order to load. Therefore: I have Ward winning such a fight.

(But, lately, Golovkin said he is going to take extensive drug tests and he asked all his possible opponents to do the same... And as I remember, Ward never took a VADA programme for instance.)

It's the out of competition testing that really matters, as guys use PEDs to reach an advanced level of training and then cycle off of the medications prior to competition. One thing that could be said in Golovkin's defense on that matter is that he's so active he wouldn't have time to cycle on and off such drugs.

      1) Golovkin made his "extensive drug tests" statement following Ward's numerous calls to fight him next... After Golovkin's statement Ward stopped calling him (as I have noticed).

      2) I agree with you on the issue that the top athletes (in boxing, because this is the sport under discussion here) are on PEDS.

Yeah, IMO His division isn't deep enough to test or develope him. I agree He beats Canelo, not sure about the stoppage though. Canelo can take shots for twelve rounds as we've seen. But aside from Kassim Ouma, we still have no idea if GGG's power will carry over into the Championship Rounds or adapt under sustained pressure.

You have got to be kidding. Primera was 19-15 coming off a 5 loss streak

Totally. I wish more fighters would use this. Highly effective in positioning and cutting off the ring.

He'll need the kind the quality of opponent to justify what his skills are. People thought Jeff Lacy was a guy with skills.

Even putting opposition to one side, there's a visible difference between watching David Lemiuex and Golovkin.

Lemieux is a ****er, Golovkin can't be dismissed as just that, the skill level is evident.

I don't know if Canelo can take his shots but if he can than maybe he has a good chance of winning. I do think GGG stops him. But yeah, you're right. The 160lb division lacks those fighters who can test GGG in various ways. I maintain that what's hurting the sport today isn't the lack of top fighters but the lack of good contenders. The Oba Carr/Angel Manfredy types who would test some portion of your game. No disrespect to a Peter Quillin but he'd make for a solid contender. Instead, today he's a champ getting seven-figure paydays.

On the contrary ... Ouma still has Golovkin problems. Despite making it a close fight for the first 7 or 8 rnds the beating that GGG laid on Kassim hospitalised him and effectively ended his career.

Wasn't GGG at his best for reasons that have been gone over many times but it did show me that even when things aren't going GGGs way he has the resolve to dig deep and simply grind a way to the win if necessary.
