He's still very inexperienced as a pro. They're bringing him on fast, but probably decided that fighting a top 10 ranked guy after only 7 fights would be a little too fast.

He already KO'd one in Cloud.

Yeah, that was real "fast track" match-making, which seemed to indicate they thought he was ready for anybody in the division.

Possibly the knock-down he took against Page has made them think again though.

I've noticed Beterbiev tends to leave himself open to counters when going for his punches. That could be a hang over from so many amateur fights. With head-guards and big gloves, you can get away with mistakes that could prove fatal against a top class pro. Maybe they decided to work on that before moving towards a title fight.

Beterbiev is overrated and I don't think he's here to stay. He's 30 and only has seven pro fights. He'll get eaten up by a hungry pro before he reaches Kovalev.

People saying he beat no one before fighting Hopkins?!? He beat Campillo which was robbed in 2 championship fights and went to England and destroyed Cleverly in a few rounds. His last 8 opponents had a combined record of 201-13.
