    One and not the other.......

I see a regular theme on this site where guys will insult a fighters style of fighting, whether it be calling them runners or wild face first brawlers someone always has a negative thing to say whoever the fighter may be. As far as I can tell the reason usually lies in admiration or support for said fighters opponents or in some case just illogical hate against men they do not know personally.

There are many examples of this in debates about fights like Lara/Canelo, Rigo/Santa Cruz, Ward/GGG-Kovalev and the inspiration for this thread Mayweather/Pacquiao. Some of these fighters come from your home countries/cities and this I understand can play a factor but..........

What I don't understand is liking one guy and not the other. Is supporting one fighter really reason enough to hate another?

Do you only like one of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier? Do you only like one of Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran? Do you only like one of Pernell Whitaker and Julio Cesar Chavez Sr? I'd say most sensible people would answer NO! you appreciate both for their amazing abilities, whether that be in defence, offence or both in some cases(Leonard).

How you could have anything but respect for both guys as boxers is beyond me, if you let what someone does outside of a ring affect what you think of them inside the ring then you do not know boxing and are most likely just a fan of a certain fighter, which is the opposite of what boxing is about and you should probably find a team sport to follow.

Boxing is about swimming and not getting hit, or hitting without getting... wait, what? Whatever... It's all about the cerebral chess matches! GTFOH with mindless Rock slingers smacking the brains out of each other. If you want to watch that go play Rock em Sock Em Robots! This is BOXING!

What does boxing have to do with swimming exactly?

I think a lot of it comes from the obnoxious fan boy types, they can be so annoying when talking about their fighter like hes a god or when spending their time disrespecting his rivals, it baits other posters into a childish argument then everybody seems to pile on to stick up for their favorite fighter or their internet buddies.

Yeah it seems to be the trend all right. Do they understand that discrediting the opponent discredits the win?

Even if I wasn't a fan of pac, I would probably still not like floyd.

              Just saying...

Watching boxing isn't a job, I don't feel obligated to pretend to like boring fighters, fighters who hit women, etc.

Watching boxing is recreational. I watch a lot of fights for the sole reason that I hope one of the fighters gets brutally beaten into a puddle and driven into poverty, so? It rocks.

But yet you feel obligated to insult them because the fighters you support can't overcome the style of boxing they choose to practice? I never said you had to watch any fighter you find boring. Who are these boring fighters anyway?

And as I said what a fighter does outside the ring shouldn't have anything to do with what happens inside. People speak higher of Edwin Valero on these boards than they do of Lara, Floyd and Rigo which shows it's not because they care, it's because it suit their agenda of what they want boxing to be.

Edwin Valero is dead. That might have something to do with it. People are going to have a hard time rooting against or wishing a jail sentence upon a dead guy.

His exciting boxing style in no way excuses what he did, however it's easy to see why he was popular BEFORE that happened.
