Since boxing has too many weight divisions and belts, wouldn't it be far more interesting and entertaining if boxing just did away with weight divisions and just had one universal belt where every fighter from the face on the earth no matter how big or small would fight each other to be named the baddest man on the planet?

I think this would be the surge boxing would need to get back to it's golden years.
No sorry I won't hear you out. You lost me with your dumbass title

Even the hardcore nutbags are dismissive of this idea...

For me the problem is the number of organisations and title belts, I mean surely we could do away with half of the organisations?

I prefer an ideal where the weights stay the same but have only two belts, WBC and IBF titles to fight for. That way we still get the odd unification bout and the titles would mean ALOT more.

dumb OP , but just for you how will draw you the landscape of boxing it will be the HW division from now and nothing more (with some Cruisers tagging along for the bottom of the pile).

This situation has cropped up several times..

The inbetween divisions are of concern as are the number of belts...

The REAL issues though, I think, do not lie in those problems exactly!!

The REAL issue is a deeper one that plagues boxing and it is an inbuilt design flaw with the way that championships are fought for..

Boxing is established as a "business" in that 2 fighters have to "make" a fight over "money". It's very much a throw back to the "Western Capitalist" world of American boxing, which, even though now dominated by Russian/Eastern fighters now days, is still ingrained in the old world style of business.

The way out has been provided in the more socialist/meritocratic system that UFC utilises!

Now I love boxing and am disdainful of UFC, do not get me wrong! But the "tournament" style matches where the best fighters compete against each other for the set+raised "prize money" is OBVIOUSLY the way to..

            - Get all the top fighters to consistently fight each other in whatever divisions exist...

            AND...

            - To conclusively produce the REAL champions of whatever divisions exist, even IF there are many multiple belts, because belt holders will have to face each other and unify in tournaments!

It is only because the capitaqlist set up of boxing exists that these problems can arise!

            Let's can it!!!

Vote Tourneys!!! Vote out the capitalist pigs who run boxing!

In short, let's give boxing back to the fighters and coaches who ARE boxing!

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.

Sure, and we can also have tag team matches and eventually ladder matches...

How is it dumb? I've already stated that boxing is indeed dead and the only way to revive it to it's golden years is to just do away with all weight divisions and just have a universal belt.

there are 7 billion people in this world of all shapes and sizes. No one is unbeatable.

Sure the smaller fighter will have to work on his craft a little more to take down the bigger man, but it is certainly possible. Just depends how bad one wants to wear the universal bout.

                      Nothing is impossible.
