So Wilder turned down 10M for Povetkin.

Povetkin's record is so immensely superior to Wilder's that even offering Wilder a fight is quite the gift.
The fact that Wilder's fans scrambled to explain why he should never take such an irrational risk is not surprising though. We all know how it works by now on boxing scene.
Once "one our boys" gets a title he better not lose it. Beta males need him to pose with **********s at playboy parties and make them feel like they're living his life, not get his ass beat by a frigid foreigner on his first defense.
There is a thin line between boxing fans and vicarious manworshippers. Wilder's career is so unremarkable that I would attribute 100% of his fanbase to vicarious manworship. Nobody would even really notice he exists on a pure boxing basis.Last edited by ////; 02-01-2015, 11:06 AM.Comment

All Povetkin has to do is become Wilder's mandatory and he'll be in line to get the fight. Stop crying.
If Deontay doesn't fight him at that point within the required time frame then you can scream about ducking. I won't defend that (unless he's doing it to fight Klitschko instead.)Comment

Povetkin getting named mandatory is not that far out of reach from happening soon anyway so there's is no reason to fear that "we aren't going to get good fights." Either him or Fury or Klitschko are on the docket for Deontay this year along with maybe an optional defense which is his right. Everything is going to be fine.

I think he deserves to have his optional defense just like any other champion. He earned that right.
Why do you want to hold him to a higher standard than other champs?Comment

We should hold Wilder to different standards from other champs since he isn't a champ. We could excuse it if a casual fan mistook Wilder for champion because of sheltered US heavyweight coverage, but you post on a boxing forum and we assume that means you follow boxing:
Povetkin (who you possibly hadn't heard of before clicking this thread, knowing Wilder's usual fanbase) offering him a fight is as good as he can hope for.Last edited by ////; 02-01-2015, 11:51 AM.Comment

I hold all fighters to the same standard. If he can make more elsewhere or he fights a tougher fight then I'm OK with it but we both know neither of those things are going to happen.Comment
