How much does a strong neck factor into punch resistance, if any?
Punch resistance and neck.

a good amount. being in prime physical shape with strong legs and strong neck is much better. plus I heard on here if you chew large wads of gum all of the time you will strengthen your jaw. if somebody said it on the scene than it must be true.

I heard a strong core is also important.Comment

It's a factor, best is of course not to get hit but if you cant avoid the punch then you want to brace youself and a strong neck helps with this. If you been caught unaware, don't see the punch coming it's easier to go down from it cause your balance, your body, neck nothing will be ready for taking that kind of force.
Also from a more scientific, mechanical point of view its easy to understand that if the neckmuscles can absorb some of the force and slow the heads motion when hit then the impact on the brain will be less.Comment

Punch resistance is about strong necks, strong legs and a sympathetic nervous system that recover's and fires back the nerve circuits quickly.
A weak, slow nervous system cannot be trained, it is more a case of genetics and inheritance.
Amir Khan is a classic example.Comment

of course ***gum will strengthin your jaw line and it helps absorb the shock more efficiently then a weak jaw with no muscle. Tap yourself on the chin with you jaw tight as can be its just a thud then tap yourself on the chin with your jaw slightly lose just a lil and you can feel the rattle in the back of your brain where as a tight strong jaw you cant.
you probably been knocked out your entire career you dont know whats up.
Everyone has different ways to accomplish this margarito used to do chin ups, Mayweather does those weighted head ups and chew gum nonstop.Comment

Now go punch a heavy bag with your fist clenched tight.....now punch it with your hand loose. Damage will clearly be done to your hand. Keeping your jaw tight will stop getting your jaw broken...thats about it.YDKSAB
