No doubt, what a ****** question. One of the best middleweights of all time.
Should James Toney be admitted to the IBHOF?

His whole body of work is great and he was a formidable opponent for almost any boxers.
I don't think he can be denied ATG status for drug use- not because I agree with it, but because guys like Holyfield will have to be booted out as well.
I think many/most high level pro boxers either do or have used PED's.Comment

I voted he should go to the hall because he was a great fighter once even if he is a total jerk today. I don't approve of ped cheats but I don't know the details of Toney's cheating. Did he cheat in his prime at 160, 168 and 175 or did he cheat when he was a blubbery whale of 200 to 260 pounds? The skinny Toney is the going to the hall, not the fat Toney. Even the fat Toney could still fight pretty good until he just got too old and too fat.Comment

Toney only juiced (as far as I can tell) at heavyweight. He was/is too small to compete in the modern heavyweight division. Back in the early 90's the only guys who did roids were heavyweights and that was the part of Toney's career that was truly hall of fame worthy. If his career was based of his cruiserweight and heavyweight exploits he would be a poor mans Bobby Czyz. Also with the low bar standards of the hall of fame how can he not be a hall of fame candidate. Both Mancini and Bowe have worse resumes than Toney.....

Toney lost interest at the possibility of being inducted to the IBHOF.....
He was initially excited thinking he was getting lifetime induction to IHOP.Comment

I am generally against fighters caught using steroids being admitted but I would understand the argument that he used them during his late heavyweight years and not when he was fighting at middleweight, super middleweight and cruiserweight. It was what he did during those times that would get him into the hall, not his fat years as a heavyweight.Comment

Everyone's on PEDs. We shouldn't just accept it and we should hope the sport tries to stop it, but I'm not going to penalize fighters in the past for something you know their opponents were doing as well. Toney didn't win because of drugs, he won because he was a great fighter.Comment
