Marvin Hagler underrated?

Hagler in some ways is the best of the bunch. Nobody ever stepped up and beat his ass, ever. And the one guy he lost to in the ring, he repaid. He didn't lose to Leonard in the ring.
All time best MW? Yeah, why not. Top 4 definitely.Comment

I see you conveniently ignored where I also described him as a boxer puncher. If I have to define what that means for you to understand, you don't know what the hell you're talking about anyway.
Which was clear when you called Hagler "one dimensional."Last edited by joseph5620; 01-26-2015, 09:51 PM.Comment

I think Hagler was great and the best of the fab four. He beat three of them and I thought he beat Leonard as well but Leonard was very popular and the judges were always kind to him. Hagler was deadly in rematches and always did much better than he did the first time. I know he would have crushed Leonard in a rematch but Leonard refused to give him one. Hagler was one of the greatest of all time and set an example champions like Cotto and Danny Garcia should try to follow. He defended his title about 4 times a year and always against the best challengers. Hagler never disappointed the fans by fighting low ranked and undeserving challengers. He only fought good high ranked fighters. If you were good and deserved a title shot Hagler would fight you and beat the hell out of you. Among his many assets Hagler had the iron jaw of all iron jaws and nobody ever knocked him down.Comment

So much of Marvin's early career was spent chasing the name fighters...and the powers that be,waiting for him to fail.
If he had the backing and promotion of Sugar Ray,there would be no doubt of his placement in the highest of the high.
As it stands with me,of the four...he is number one.Comment

Hagler was not one dimensional at all. He was a well rounded southpaw who could counter and box wonderfully and had the chin and power to go to war if he had too. Silly people.he reason does not get mentioned with the others is that he was one-dimensional while the other three clearly were more well-rounded. Besides he got lucky that Hearns broke his hand, fought a bloated Duran and got made a fool out of by Leonard. He is the least talented of the four.Comment

At least some of it may have to do with the fact that he's kind of distanced himself from the boxing world. Think he moved to Italy 25+ years ago and comes back to the U.S. only occasionally? Don't recall ever hearing any interviews from him or even seeing the guy out in public. Not that any of this should have anything to do with where he's ranked in terms of ATGs but can see how it would make him easier to forget...Comment

Overrated. Never fought outside his comfort zone.
Kinda like Andre Ward. Guys like Oscar de LaHoya got beat up...but guys like these went after the challenge. There are always people out there that can beat you. If you stay within your comfort zone, it gives the false impression you're invincible. But nobody is!Comment
