This was probably the clearest example I have seen in years of a fighter losing a fight because he did not train properly and was out of shape. Because the majority of times it sounds like fans making an excuse for their fighter who got whooped. But in this case it was clear, looking at his flabby chests, arms, stomach, and he damn near grew fat on his face too, that this was a case of a fighter who has to get his act together and train. His fights against Prov, Marquez and the first 2 Rios fights indicate he is a better fighter than this.
Alvarado should retire ASAP

Exactly what my response was gonna be. Without boxing, what does Mike have or do? Drugs, booze, fast women, guns?I mean I am sure boxing is not good for his health but dude has a serious discipline problem it seems to me. Boxing is the one thing that made him be disciplined and even that seems to be failing.
If he just retires though what is he going to do but get into trouble?
It is a catch 22, but the guy needs to get some real help.
Mike needs to redeem himself. When I saw Mike Alvarado for the first time against Breidas Prescott, I instantly become a fan. He was a warrior in that fight and showed a lot of character. Why can't he do that again?
Maybe he goes back to fighting on ESPN cards (actually I don't think he has a choice after what he pulled Sat night) and builds himself up again.Comment

He looked horrendous, his head was like a bobble head for all 3 rounds. It was target practice for Rios. That was the kind of beating that fighters don't come back from. What's going on in his personal life?Comment

i think alvarado needs to take a year off to regroup and then maybe take a bunch of easy fights against journeyman to get his confidence up again. it was too soon after the provo and marquez beating to go back into the ring with a hard pressure fighter like rios.Comment
