NEW YORK -- A simple review of the schedule indicates 2014 was a rough year for Showtime boxing. A stellar 2013 was followed by a steady stream of fights that
SI.com: But big fights have to come from somewhere, and most likely it’s going to come from someone that regularly fights on Showtime. Is that an unfair assessment?
SE: Not at all. It’s a logical statement. But I think it assumes that the deal is going to play out a certain way. Before we pronounce Al’s new business model as a good thing or a bad thing for Showtime, we should all see what it is. Al may suffer a little bit because he tends to be behind the scenes and allows his fighters to take center stage and people tend to assume the worst. But everyone should just wait. I think this will play out in a way that benefits [Showtime] and the sport.

Its crazy that instead of fans just debating who would win a fight, now fans debate whos the manager, promoter and network. Who sold more, whos more rich. Damn, this sport is beyond rotten. Regular fans turn into accountants, pocket watchers. this is depressing. This guys with Showtime, this guy HBO. Jesus. I love this sport but the politics ruin it. Pacquiao/Khan is a great fight, but Haymon in the mix means it wont happen.
Pac fans would say something like Floyd fans are gutless coward and it's not Manny's fault they're not fighting...
but I agree with you!!!Comment

Could be. Or maybe the contract ends on a specific date and it hasn't happened yet? But I do think the likely scenario is that he re-signed. Would be a good way of Al keeping Showtime happy while he siphons other fights to rival networks.Comment

Last I read about Khan's promotional ties is that his contract with GBP ended. He is still with Al Haymon, isn't he? HBO has unofficially banned Haymon fighters, so I imagine Khan still fights in Showtime or will renew the contract for more money.Comment

Isn't HBO the only rival network?Comment

I like this fight. If Floyd ducks Manny again (ruining his legacy in the process) then this is a great plan B. I believe old glass jaw can beat Manny if he is at his best.Comment
