Strong rumors have begun to swirl of Jorge Linares making the first defense of his lightweight title versus former two-division champ Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Promoter Pepe Gomez confirmed negotiations were underway during a recent segment on ESPN Deportes’ A Los Golpes Radio. Once finalized, the fight is likely to land in Cancun sometime during the spring.

1) Gamboa is not a two-division world champion. Interim titles should not be recognized as legit world titles, otherwise Gamboa, who won an interim belt at 135 too, would be a three-division world champion (and Robert Guerrero a six-time, four-division world champion... lol).
