Comments Thread For: Abner Mares Eyes Return on Guerrero-Thurman Card

Former three division world champion Abner Mares (28-1-1 with 15 knockouts) is anticipating a ring return on March 7th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will be part of the Haymon Boxing debut show on NBC. The card is topped by a welterweight battle between Robert Guerrero and Keith Thurman.

BoxingScene.com reported a few days ago that WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez is likely going to face Gary Russell Jr. in March and then a rematch with Mares on a date in June. Mares also confirms the same information.

I'm assuming undercard/prelim fights will be on NBC Sports. Kind of how Showtime Extreme carried fights before the main attraction Showtime card.

Already a triple-header no need to add anything else. Hopefully Mares returns on another NBC card or on Showtime. Four fights is a lot to keep up with.

Great news. Hopefully he wins so he can get a rematch with Jhonny in June. If he wins that, he can take on LSC in September and beat his slurring ass into a bowl of arroz con leche.

It's a double header so far unless they added another fight to Guerrero/Thurman and Broner/Molina.

Hmm que la chingada, . I'm getting impatient now 'mano. Mares vs. Gonzalez II was supposed to happen in November 2013, then February 2014, then Mares returned in a boring a$$ fight against Jonathan Oquendo in July 2014. Then he fought in December 2014 against Jose Ramirez, which was okay because it was an entertaining fight at least. Then they said Mares vs. Santa Cruz in April/May, now it's Mares vs. Gonzalez II in June and the winner vs. Santa Cruz in September. It's hard to believe anything they say, .

Lmao se lo que estas diciendo porque yo tambien me siento haci pero que podemos hacer? Esta mierda pasa gracias a el prieto Al. Hijo de su pinche madre sigue protejiendo al pendejo de Leo. I really think he wants it the way I ordered it. Why else would he throw Russel in with Jhonny? So I'm thinking June Mares vs Gonzalez II and Sept. Leo vs Mares for Abner's cinto. Idk but ese puto Moreno ya me fastidio

There will be no rematch if Jhonny loses his belt against Russell. Mares vs. Gary Russell Jr. would be a good fight.

I know this is just a stay-busy fight for Mares but I hope he faces at least a decent fighter/fringe contender. Oquendo was acceptable but Jose Ramirez was a waste of time.
