What if someone breaks out the nun chucks, will the boxer win then?
wing chun vs boxing - why boxers are dangerous for wing chun

No, I use Wing Chun when in very close proximity. Wing Chun principles are more effective at infighting than Traditional boxing principles.
Boxing is better in the mid-range.Comment

I like the fact that the guy kept it real in saying his style of fighting isn't all that practical against a boxer. There is a lot of folklore surrounding western fighting styles (not sure of the correct term) and someone who doesn't know any better believes Bruce Lee would've beaten anyone who has ever walked the earth and as a result people who know about combat sports call them on that. I think there is a middle ground. While I know the average persons expectations of western fighting styles are greatly exaggerated I also wouldn't go as far to say they are "garbage" and that their technique can just be swept under the rug as "Hollywood bs", their style can be applicable under the right circumstances and if tweaked can even be effective. Props to the wing chiun dude, props for the post.Comment

you really repeated what i said..lolThey simply master a certain set of principles, but when you define yourself with a specific style you are also confined by it.
Real fighting is too erratic. Mastering a style doesn't mean **** in a real fight if the concepts and principles associated with that style don't apply to real combat situations.
I practice wing chun, muay thai, boxing, jiu jitsu. I use whatever works and discard what is inefficient. Being a strict "boxer" in a real fight makes you predictable and therefore vulnerable. I use boxing principles when I throw punches, Muay Thai concepts when I kick, Jiu Jitsu principles when I grapple.Comment

This is 100 percent a lie..Boxing even has Wing chun in it..Parrying is Wing ChunComment

The irony being that Bruce Lee said numerous times that boxing/wrestling was real fighting and that the stuff he did was mostly just art/tradition.I like the fact that the guy kept it real in saying his style of fighting isn't all that practical against a boxer. I always notice people laugh at martial arts that they are ignorant too...this is my you see posters calling MMA "GAY" and "UNSKILLED" the ground game and trying to establish position takes a huge amount of skill and stamina..Fighting properly is a science not a brute actComment

Everything has "parrying" in it, unless there's a martial art out there that recommends letting someone punch you then running in the opposite direction before falling over and advises against defense. Zab Judo.
We would need a more specific than practically universal basic parrying concepts to determine that the unique aspects of Wing Chun are good for much of anything.Comment

BEcause the various schools of Kung Fu have done so well in MMA.I always notice people laugh at martial arts that they are ignorant too...this is my you see posters calling MMA "GAY" and "UNSKILLED" the ground game and trying to establish position takes a huge amount of skill and stamina..Fighting properly is a science not a brute actComment

I've had (otherwise) smart people ask me "do you think a Tyson or a "bones" Jones could take Bruce Lee in a fight?".The irony being that Bruce Lee said numerous times that boxing/wrestling was real fighting and that the stuff he did was mostly just art/tradition.

I would try to explain to them that Bruce Lee was (for all intents and purposes) just an actor and had never accomplished anything as a professional fighter ... And Jones and Tyson were (almost literally) twice his size and would crush him. I'd even pull up quotes from Lee himself regarding a (potential) fight between him and Ali ...
None of that was enough to sway them. A lot of people believe in the "one inch punch" "the five finger death ... Whatever" and the fact that Bruce Lee "split a heavy bag in half with a single kick"... Crazy ****...Comment
