Comments Thread For: Andre Ward Aims For Late March, Early April Return

WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs) is hungry to get back in the ring. The talented boxer has been inactive since November of 2013, after winning a twelve round unanimous decision over Edwin Rodriguez.

Ward, on the bench due to injuries and a series of legal battles with Goossen Promotions, is now past those issues and signed a promotional deal with Roc Nation Sports.

He hopes to return to action on a date in late March or early April.

no win situation for Ward. still supposedly the Ring champion and the WBA super (how they've let him keep that is beyond me!) but his next fight will be against a nobody and then he'll struggle to get any meaningful fights because he's simply not a draw. absolutely not a PPV fighter.
what he really needs to do is come over to the UK in November and fight Froch. principally because Froch has maintained his position as the #1 challenger to the 168lb crown since their first fight and there really is no viable challenge to him beyond that and secondly because at least in the UK they could probably fill a stadium in Nottingham with people wanting to see Carl in what might be his final fight.
but I doubt Ward has the cohones to actually leave the US. he'll probably have golovkin move up and then clinch-punch him for 12 rounds.

Ward isn't demanding to fight GGG for his return bout. How sad and disappointing - but somehow not surprising..., to me.

do you suggest he jump right back in with a Froch or DeGale?

If he still claims to be the #2 p4p in the world, then yes. At least Floyd fought Marquez after he came back from retirement.

Good to have the champ back! I don't understand the hate, having Andre back is a good thing for boxing. Everyone wants to clown on the guy for being on the self and now they wanna clown on him for not announcing a fight with GGG, Kovalev within the first day. Geez, "fans" of boxing are so fickle.
