My thinking is that Cotto could lose vs Mayweather and still fight Canelo right after. but if he loses to Canelo. He could forget the Mayweather fight.

That's such a ****** scenario, you shouldn't even be allowed to post. If Cotto fights Canelo, Cotto loses. Nobody buys Floyd-Cotto 2, and Floyd still gets paid $32m. If Cotto doesn't fight Canelo, the pressure will be on him to fight Gennady who would knock him out. He'll never fight Gennady, and the only fight they'd seek to make with Cotto is with Tim Bradley, which isn't a big sell either. Unless Floyd fights Manny, nobody is buying Floyd anymore. Cotto is one and done; his biggest payday is fighting Canelo, and he'll lose that fight.

Cotto actually won 4 rounds against Floyd and even if you feel he won 2, not only is that 2 more than Canelo he was actually competitive in every round win or lose. There's no interest in another Floyd-Cotto fight. Floyd is screwing with Oscar over the May 2 date, but Cotto & Canelo, Puerto Rican & Mexican fighting in Texas Stadium on May 2 will be a HUGE sell. And don't bet with your heart on what great "boxing" you think Cotto shows up with. All the Sergio fans claimed he'd outbox Cotto too, despite being shot, 40, and injury prone. Also, Cotto is on record saying he was not at his best for Trout. I see you like to compare their performance against Trout, but NOT SO MUCH against Floyd.
