Lara is not better skilled than Cotto wtf... if it wasn't for Angulo quitting Lara would have lost that fight. Doing damage or not, Angulo did better against Lara than Canelo did and Angulo is a D class fighter. He's a poor version of Margarito and Lara went life and death with him. Lara has power if he pulls the trigger and lands a clean counter, but he's no human wrecking ball. If anything their Angulo fights proved Canelo's power is overrated more than Lara's being underrated. Canelo's bread and butter isn't come forward fighters...it's human punching bags. What reputable slugger has he beat that either didn't come up in weight or was completely faded?

I see where you are coming from, but Cotto is not that fighter.


First and foremost, Cotto is not a pressure or a volume fighter, nor a slugger. He wasn't at 140, nor at 147 and surely cannot play "the slugger" against a much bigger guy like Canelo.

Cotto likes to take his time and work the body , if he has to box he can do it pretty well. He though can't push Canelo back , Saul will be around 15lbs heavier come fight night and has a naturally bigger frame.

Cotto's best chance in my opinion is to box and try to frustate Canelo, possibly leading him into a mistake or into tiring himself out.

I wouldn't say that Cotto is a better pure boxer than Lara, but he surely is more versatile.

Lara only fights on the outside, if somebody manages to force him into a dog fight he is in trouble. Cotto on the other hand can brawl, can stand his own on the inside, can go to the body -and- can box.

That was because of Canelo's inability to cut off the ring. I'll admit he had some success in that department, but it's not like he was stalking him the entire fight...he simply trudged forward and recomposed whenever his target moved.

Actually he is on the defensive side even in front. Offensively though, Cotto is much better in that department.
