Comments Thread For: Matthysse Eyes Move To 147, Mayweather Showdown

Junior welterweight contender Lucas Matthysse (36-3, 34KOs) is giving himself another year at junior welterweight, and plans to move up to the welterweight limit of 147-pounds by the start of next year.

Matthysse, ranked in the number one position under the WBO, hopes to capture a world title before he moves up. He has a tentative return date of February 28th.

Like many other boxers at welterweight, he hopes to get the opportunity to face WBC/WBA champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. 947-0, 26KOs).

Very good shot at landing the mayweather fight as Floyd will only face slow plodders.

Yeah, you and everyone else from 135-160. You lost that chance, Lucas, sorry.

EDIT: Wow, Mayweather is 947-0 now? And he still only has 26 KOs??? What a featherfisted bum, even Cesar Cuenca does better than that. Maybe Lucas does have a chance after all, if Mayweather's fighting 900 times a year now.

Can someone remind Lucas that mayweather is retiring after September 2015? That being said,I'd still want to see the machine kick broners ass at 140,and my mouth waters at the possibility of a matthyse vs Terrance Crawford at 140.

Khan would kill himself if Matthysse gets a fight before him

That is the carrot that Haymon dangles in front of everybody he signs, an opportunity at Floyd.

No different than what Don King was doing when he had Tyson. Almost every HW was signed to him

Lucas can eat a whole damn Komodo dragon raw and he's still ain't beating lil floyd. Matter of a fact there's a mexican guy name Mauricio herrera at his weight right now that will kick his a$$.

Eighteen months ago this would have been classified as a good matchup and a pretty risky fight for Mayweather. Funny how quickly opinions can change.

Come on, there were like five people on NSB who thought Matthysse had any chance against Mayweather. Most people who said it would be a good fight always said so with the disclaimer, "if he beats Danny Garcia." Which was true, the Garcia/Matthysse winner was one of Mayweather's best potential options afterwards.
