Comments Thread For: Matthysse Not Concerned With Facing Adrien Broner

Matthysse is wrong about that, but he seem to be entirely focused on getting a world title now. Understandable I guess, given that he's only held an interim title to date.
But if he was offered the Broner fight he'd be a fool not to take it. Every time Broner gets beaten there's less value in it. But there's still value in beating him now.

I like MAttysse but if he is all about titles than he should have never agreed to take the IBF title off the table when he fought Peterson. Kind of bullsh#t how boxing politics has him bypass a title opportunity with a 141 catchweight to keep his "interim" WBC status. He should have went into the Garcia fight with his title against Danny's 2 titles in a unification bout. The fact that Lamont is still IBF champ is laughable.

Broner's team said the same thing first, actually.
"Broner’s trainer doesn’t want him to fight Matthysse next
September 10, 2014
By Dan Ambrose:
Mike Stafford, the trainer for former three time world champion Adrien Broner (29-1, 22 KOs), says he prefers that Broner not fight #1 WBO, #2 WBC Lucas Matthysse (36-3, 34 KOs) next. Stafford wants Broner to fight for a world title and pick up a belt before fighting Matthysse at a later date."

And if I know it right he is mandatory for the vacant WBO title so it's even more logical.
