Hopkins was too good in the pocket, too good at being able to fight in/ out of the clinches and he knew how to sneakily use his dirtiness to make his opponents lose their head. Hopkins could have taken it from long range as well.

Agreed. Hopkins veteran tactics would have frustrated GGG to the point he wouldnt have known what to do to counter it and would have been a sitting duck down the stretch of the fight.

And Ftr, i think hopkins who beat tarver 9 years ago would have feasted on kovalev too dawgie! Lol
You're comparing Mercado's power to Golovkins!?! Mercado was on level with Milton Nunez. It was freak accident that he hurt Bernard in their fight. Echols had good pop, but it didn't take a master boxer like Bernard to neutralize him (on par with Curtis Stevens). As for Joppy, he was a faded version of himself when finally got in with Hopkins. He never recovered his form after the Tito stoppage and it showed in his fight with Eastman. Additionally King kept Joppy very inactive prior to the Hopkins fight.

When Bernard lost to Taylor, we chalked it up to Bernard being old. But given the past 10 years, I think it's pretty clear age wasn't the primary factor in Bernard losing those fights. He just couldn't handle that style. If Jermaine wouldn't have had stamina issues and been more conditioned to handle Bernard's dirty tactics, Jermaine would've won clear decisions over Hopkins. If Bernard would've fought Winky Wright during his reign at MW, I think Wright might've won a close decision.

While I feel GGG has beaten some good MW's, he doesn't have any wins over a great fighter yet (and he won't at MW for a few years til one develops). I think he beats prime Hopkins, but I can't support that feeling until after he fights Ward.

Just say it. He would have wrecked his junk.

lol. Like a street fight. That's all he's ever been at base.

So does ROy, no matter how much i love him. If certain fighters grow a pair of balls, I think GGG could end his career in the best of all time discussion. If GGG beats Ward, Chavez Jr, Froch, both dirrells, jacobs, maybe kessler, quillen would you then think he beats hop or roy???

Roy and Hopkins have turned into these mythical type legends similar to how Floyd fans currently speak about Foyd. GGG does so many things well he does fine in any era and gives many greats problems.

Dude the punch that Mercado hit him with was pure flash. And he got up laughing just like Kovalev.

It would take a 9mm bullet to stop X.
