Comments Thread For: Hearn: Groves Should Pass on Dirrell, Face DeGale

Super middleweight contender George Groves (21-2, 16KOs) is the mandatory challenger to WBC champion Anthony Dirrell. The World Boxing Council has given permission to Dirrell to have a voluntary defense in February. After that voluntary, Dirrell will have to face Groves next.

In the opinion of promoter Barry Hearn of Matchroom Sport, Groves should pass on the shot at Dirrell and instead take part in a far more lucrative opportunity with a rematch against domestic rival James DeGale (20-1, 14KOs).

Would like to see Groves face Dirrell. As great as domestic fights are, I think british fighters also should be fighting against big non-british fighters, but obviously the Groves vs Degale II fight is massive.

Degale would be a heavy favourite if they fought.

The IBF might not permit Groves to fight for the vacant title. Andre Dirrell has just won an IBF eliminator so it's more than likely DeGale will have to fight Andre Dirrell. Meanwhile Groves might as well face Anthony.

I see both beating Groves so I agree he should target the money fight.

Keep Groves away from anyone in the top ten until the goofy ginger anus runs back to Adam Booth and begs for his forgiveness. Paddy Fitzpatrick is dragging him down to the same level he was as a fighter.

Hearn doesn't get it. Groves knows the Degale rematch will still be there whethere he wins of losses against Dirrell.

Totally agree, Groves looked like a calculated killer with Booth. Now he looks like a fraction of his former self. Also wonder if the big money and knockout loss to Froch affected his dedication/mindset.

booth is too negative, his answer to beat degale was 'stay out of the blender' how about get in there and counter him? counter the looping punches degale throws, wilcewski almost beat degale on the inside so how about actualy not being so negative????
