What made Marvin Hagler so dominant?

He wasn't the fastest guy, but he was very durable and tough. What do you guys think made him so great? What was his best asset?

You'll have to excuse this ******ed person for using another lame Chuck Norris joke. Welcome to nine years ago...you fruit basket wrapped in candy film.

What made Hagler so good, was the idea that he had something people like to refer to as "Balls". His bravery and unwillingness to take no for an answer made him lethal. Lets say for instance...if Corrales were to fight the way he did against Castillo in his first fight....he could literally have a good shot at beating anyone. Hagler fought like that in every single fight of his career. It just so happens he had a granite chin, and could absorb punishment.

He committed to the same attack against everyone basically, and that consisted of throwing fast hooks to the body and head, but furthermore, he could cut the ring off better than anyone in the history of the sport...and there really was nowhere for anyone to run.

Issues regarding his chin, yeah it was granite, but what really flies under the radar is how big his heart was. He was tagged by huge punchers and his desire to attack was relentless. That kind of attitude really overwrites anyone's punches, especially when a fighter sticks to his gameplan.

I guess it helped being from Brockton MA anyways...because tough mother****ers come from that neck of the woods.

i grew up 15 min away from brockton...that must mean im a hardass.

but yeah, rwk, as usual, was right on the money here. the only thing i would add was haglers constant agression, he always was coming foreward and pursuing his opponents. add in his ability to cut off the ring, pared with his power, chin and heart...theres really no comparison, hagler was simply marvlous

(sorry about that, i know it was corny)

Id say his hunger, his focus, his unrelenting will to win.

I think mentally Hagler was amazing. He was so tough mentally, his preparation second to none.

And I'm dead serious, he cut off the ring better than anyone in the history of the sport. I'd have to say better than a prime Mike Tyson.

Some Hagler trademarks that nobody has mentioned:

His beautiful right jab (dismantled opponents)

His ability to adapt to his opponent (box or brawl)

His preparation for fights (always top notch)

His in-fighting (short hooks and uppercuts on the inside were deadly)

And someone already mentioned this one...his killer instinct. He could sense when he had his man ready to go and he never let up when he felt that.

Yeah we could go on all day, seriously.

I've been gettin to thinkin...and since I've been watching his old fights and learning alot more about some of the supposed "Mediocre Opposition" he defended his title against:

meh. Top 10 all time fighter easy....hell better than that.
