Well soft is the wrong word, what he did would in fact be the opposite of soft.

He can be hit clean and hurt, he has lapses in his game that are maddening for a guy with that level of talent but he has the ability to overcome those issues against most guys. I don't think he easily waxes everyone in 3 divisions around him as a bunch of people made out, but that does not mean he loses those fights either.
