I can't vote because it's both. Yes, Maravilla was shot, over the hill, and stepped out of a wheelchair. That doesn't change the fact that Cotto looked good, as a matter of fact he looked great. Just because one fighter is shot doesn't mean we can't take away good things from the other fighter. Is it a great win on his resume? No, because again, he was over the hill and on crutches, but Cotto still looked good in a fight he should have won. If Martinez beat him that night it would have been similar to when Mosley beat Margarito, it would have been spectacular, but Cotto was always supposed to win that fight.

I dont know why posters are bringing up what were people saying prior to the fight. Sergio was the favorite and rightfully so but no one knew the seriousness of the knee injury and I'm pretty sure his camp and promoter kept quiet about it since they want to get paid too. It doesn't take away from what Cotto did but you can't use that as an excuse to cover up how badly injured Martinez was.

For Cottotards, the logic is that he was an underdog and thats why they should give him his due. People picked Martinez because they thought he was recovered from his injuries and was at least 80-90% going into the fight.

We couldn't have been more wrong with his health status, he was a complete shell of himself that night, and all Cotto had to do was beat up on a sparring partner. Martinez was fighting on pure heart and on badly damaged knees. Any JMW or MW woulda had his way with Sergio that night the way Cotto did.

I thought the win was a legit victory for Cotto, he landed the very same left hook that Chavez Jr landed in the 12th round. Which Martinez legs turn in to noodles, but Cotto did it in the first round, and his legs were gone, right after that first left hook landed.
