Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua Eyes World Title, Focused on Johnson

British heavyweight Anthony Joshua said a world title fight could be on the horizon in 2015 but first he is focused on the clash with America’s Kevin Johnson on January 31, Sky Sports reports.

The Olympic gold medallist made the professional transformation just over a year ago, and has notched an impressive run of 10 fights unbeaten.

“I feel, in the current heavyweight division, if I keep on progressing, it will edge me towards a world title fight,” Joshua said.

have they pushed back johnson to april? the thing is if they give him an easy guy he likely gets kod quick they have to pick decent guys or people will get bored. Theyre gona have to get the tony thompsons soon to maintain interest, surely not a wilder 30-0 cans whats the point in that?

Kingpin is a step up. Last time an olympic medalist stepped up to fight toney thompsom with 15 fights was david price. He never recovered. AJ has fought the same level of guys price did. Kingpin is a good opponent at this stage. AJ doesnt need to be thrown to the wolves like price was. Look what happened? Price is not even on the HW radar anymore & his promoter came out as a cross dresser. If he handles kingpin then maybe thompson can be considered or chazz witherspoon who is returning to the ring.

I wouldn't exactly call Thompson "the wolves". In my opinion, anyone who believes they have a future as a top heavyweight contender should be able to beat Thompson rather easily. Price got hit with a funny shot the first time, and ****** as they were, they rushed into a rematch thinking it was a fluke.

AJ, in my opinion, would have made relatively easy work of that version of Thompson. Kingpin is a good step up as you say, but once again, if you think of yourself as a future champion, he must be dealt with quite easily.

I'm surprized he's not fought abroad yet. I'd also like to see him progress via English, British, Commonwealth & EBU titles.

Joshua is the best up-and-coming heavyweight and has a very good promoter who sees his potential.

He'll surpass Fury in quality of opponents by the end of the year, and won't avoid the bigger heavyweights the way Fury has.

I think Joshua is the heir apparent to Wladimir Klitschko as heavyweight champion.

He should definitely beat Johnson, who has become a mediocre journeyman. Would be good to get some round vs an experienced opponent, obviously.

I think next year is too early for a title shot too.
