Comments Thread For: Golovkin Says Time is Not Right For Andre Ward Clash

WBA/IBO/WBC-interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs) says a fight with Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs), the WBA champion and king at super middleweight, would be a much bigger fight in the future.

Golovkin is first looking to unify the middleweight division. He faces Martin Murray on February 21st. The next step is a mandatory shot at the full WBC crown, which is currently held by Miguel Cotto. The WBO title is held by Andy Lee and the IBF belt rests with Jermain Taylor.

He's a MW that hasn't really earned his crown yet. Would be dumb to rush to 168 unless it's a huge reward for now.
Ward also needs to fight more often.

It's not just that; Ward has been inactive as hell and Golovkin is still building his brand. The fight gets a lot more attention in 2-3 years if GGG can keep up his momentum and Ward can return to activity.

Golovkin is an honest and respectful guy. I respect his position.

His team and his fans need to start falling back. You can't complain that no one wants to fight him when he clearly doesn't want to fight someone.

GGG's team is protecting him from that Ward fight, they aren't fooling anyone. They are lucky that Ward has ruined his career with inactivity.

When has Ward showed a strong intention and desire to fight GGG. If Ward came down to middleweight and challenged him I'm sure GGG would be happy to send his cheating garbage arse to pluto with a left hook.

GGG knocks his ass out. Another deluded boxing hipster, Ward has nothing for GGG's iron chin.

Why would Ward go down to 160 to fight GGG?? GGG's team wanted to go to 168 for Chavez and Chavez is bigger then Ward

Yeah timing is bad for Ward, but timing is good for macklin and shot ass jermaine taylor.

GGG has all of these fans fooled. Hes playing duck duck goose with ward, making sure he is well shot before he ever ventures to 168.

Funny, GGG thinks little Pac and Floyd should move up to 160 for him, but hes not willing to go to 168 for ward. What a coward.
