The reports that say Cotto asked for the catchweight ar wrong. Canelo last 2 fights have been at 155 pounds and at the start of negotiations that was their request and since Cotto had no problems fighting above that since he aint that big he said ok.

As a boxing fan /Cotto fan I want the fight in January not on Cinco De mayo Canelo fans can say what they want but there boy in 3 fights had some fishy scorecards Trout he was up more on points than what they gave him....Mayweather fight were that judge gave him a draw and I think that was a judge from Guadalajara Mexico were canelo is from....In the Lara fight one judge had 115-113 lara, 115 -113 canelo, then that one idiot had 117-111 get the f@@@ out of here with that!!!! Cotto is pissed that HBO is backing Canelo on the date. If I am Cotto I say give me New York or no fight because something shady might happen.

Cotto is my second favorite fighter, but Canelo will NOT fight in NY. Cotto has fought in Vegas on numerous occasions and should know Vegas will draw more money.

If Cotto wants this fight and I think he does, if he demands NY this fight will not happen. I'm good with Cotto getting the bigger share and dictating most of the terms, I don't think Canelo really cares but it has be in Vegas and has to be in May

Pretty simple.........Canelo may have the following but has nowhere near earned the right to be pre-madonna. This isn't Erislandy Lara bringing 30K PPV buys, this is someone that could have gotten the same draw against, Lara, possibly more. (Fight did less than 300K buys for 1 vs 2 at 154 and the decision could have gone the other way)........

I hope we don't have this to look forward to in the future from Canelo. Oscar trying to build the next 'Oscar' with someone that's biggest accomplishment is not winning a minute against the best fighter in the world while 'helping' to push a Mayweather fight over 2 Mil buys..... :wank:

NEWSFLASH: 2.2 Mil buys had little to do with Canelo himself as evidenced clearly by the Lara fight, Canelo is still not 'A-Side', especially not here.

If I were Cotto, I'd do exactly what Canelo did and before negotiations, come out and say "My next fight will be at MSG on PR Day Parade weekend. Opponent to be determined.......then he could have picked a LARGE number of interesting fights who also have NY roots.........Quillin, Jacobs, etc, that would by him a one-fight pass to avoid GGG, then, depending on Mayweather vs Pac, cash out with Floyd by offering him a walk-away with the MW title at 155.........OR.....re-visit the fight with Canelo, assuming he beats either of those guys or a number of others he could choose from AS CHAMPION.....and walk away without the beating he'd get from GGG......he's already had two of those, both of which were shady. He's absolutely earned the right to pass on that fight and retire when he's done....let Canelo take the beating........

Cotto is the A-side. He has beaten better fighters, and already been at this stage many times. If everything is equal Cotto is still the lineal middle weight champ. He is already giving Canelo the date he wants so what is the problem?

Cotto has beaten better fighters.. hmm like Trout? Last I've known Canelo vs Mayweather sold a whole lot more than Mayweather vs Cotto. Ironing minor details? It is still not even clear whether Cotto wants to sign for the fight or not. But I do agree that the talks are more serious and close compared to Manny/Pacquiao
