I honestly never understood this, the fight is promoted as usual, and comes on at the same time..so why does the location matter to boxing fans if they are going to order it or not? The biggest fights in history were out of the country..Rumble in the jungle, thrilla in Manilla for example..Tho before the ppv era i can not imagine the ppv's would be low just because the fight was overseas...So honeslty what does a fight being overseas have to do with ppv numbers?
Why do posters say fighting in another country effect ppv#'s?

Come on Larry. That BS is about defelcting from the obvious reasons the fight didn't sell-the main event fighter is losing his popularity and/or the choice of opponent was so weak that it turned fans off. -
I really want to hear some real excuses on how the location matters at all...I could see if the fight came on at a weird time or there was no tour in the states..but none of this is the case at all..Comment

i could understand if the ppv was at like 2 eastern but if it still airs at the normal time then the location is no excuse..if anything it should do better cause thats an extra 20k + people that wont be in vegas/texas for the fight weekendComment

Seriously i do not understand the excuse....Comment

It doesn't. Then there's the "he fought an unknown fighter" excuse. He shouldn't have fought an unknown fighter, it's his own damn fault for cherry picking him.Comment

From my understanding, the majority of promotion/marketing for fights overseas take place overseas rather than here in the states.
Not sure how much of an impact that has but if you're referring to Pac's #'s vs Rios and Algieri, a big reason for those #'s being low are because neither opponent were much of a draw. Especially the basement dweller Algieri.Comment

its the connotation you get from the sentences.
"floyd fighting in China"
"wtf, why China?"
"floyd fighting at Madison Square Garden"
"damn MSG!"
The US public just hears it different I assume. Unless you're the self-proclaiming GOAT fighting the next baddest dude on the planet, nobody would care where you fight considering you've already gained worldwide attention. (Ali/Foreman/Frazier)
But if you're Manny or Floyd fighting in some other country against a guy not even top 10 P4P it throws people off as to why you're fighting in a country that is not either man's home turf.Comment
