That footage looks like it's been filmed off of a computer screen, so obviously someone filmed the fight.

Boxrec him. He fought again last week.

He's one of those tough gatekeeper journeyman types who's always been taking on fights against undefeated prospects at short notice (and often beating them).

With proper management and advice he could well have been a contender but he's spent a career just taking what fights he was offered or even allowing friends to choose fights for him, though as a result may have one of the deepest resumes (albeit losing) in the sport.

His resume reads like a whos who of talent all the way from 154 (Lara) up to 175 (Kovalev and Stevebnson) and he's never a guy to be taken lightly. There's a good number of young, touted, unbeaten prospects who came away from fighting Deezol without there '0's

Kid was a late starter too, having wandered into the gym when there was no one to take his kid brother. Deciding to give it a try he was given a choice of the guys there to spar with, and chose (knowing no better) Kell Pavlik - who trounced him.

              Who schooled who?

If you're imagining that somehow judges were being leveraged towards Sergei as early as Boone 1 you really have no idea. Kovalev was a literal no-one at the time and the fight took place in Darnells home town.

Despite the close scores not even Deezol has claimed he should have got the win over Sergei (whereas he thinks he should have got the nod vs Ward - though I disagree).

In the absence of footage I've looked over contemporary records of the fight and other sources and it seems that Sergei clearly won the first 4 and probably had Darnell in trouble at some point but failed to capitalise. Sometime duing late 4 or 5 Kovalev started to gas (he says he'd overtrained and just ran outta energy) and was caught by one of Deezols unorthodox hooks in rnd 5. According to Kovalev it took all of his willpower to survive the remainer of the fight.

Darnell also acknowledges Kovalev as a much better boxer than Stevenson and (at the time) Ward, though acknowledges that Andre has moved on vastly since they fought and that Ward may be the better boxer now.
