Why didn't Hopkins fight Toney?

James Toney was too good and Hopkins was fine staying @ 160 patiently waiting to feast on Oscar and Tito instead of moving up. Toney then got fat but still managed to move up and fight top shelf opponents. James Toney > Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins age makes him way overrated imo. James Toney was even fat and out of shape yet still fought and beat guys.

Toney moved up to 168 in 1992. He fought Roy Jones in 1994 and got schooled. He blamed his inability to make weight and moved up to 175 after that. Hopkins and Toney were only in the same weight class very early in Hopkins career; before he even won his first title.

After that, Toney moved up and stayed having weight problems. There was no way he could make 168 after 1995.

By the time Hopkins moved up to 175 Toney was a tank.

Basically there was never really a point in time where the fight could have been made when both were at the top of their game.

Oh ok I see. I've been watching a lot of Toney lately, I saw an interview with him and he said Hopkins didn't want to fight him. I didn't know the particulars about the weight etc.

Would be a very boring fight now, and in the 90's. Though the initial idea of the fight is interesting but stylistically a horrible fight.
