Imagine how many people wouldn't have watched if they were being charged? I mean look at the viewership of the NFL and then imagine the views after having to pay to watch it...Comment

Im a Pac fan who was in China when that fight happened. They didnt show the whole card but just when Zhou fought and the Manny fight. Lets be real here... the Chinese wanted to see Zhou fight, not Manny... I wacthed the fight in a bar and as soon as Zhou fight finished some waiter seemed lesss interested in watching.Comment

For being a country of over a billion people, those numbers are quite low. Perhaps once the sport grows in popularity in China the numbers would explode, that means Zou keeps winning and seeing as how Amnat is down the road next year, that might be a conflict. Mexico has 1/10th the population of China and it pulls in 20 - 30 million views for the big fighting events, in case anyone was wondering why I think China's numbers are low when the country consist of over 1 billion people.
It may take a little while to build up, but it could end up paying massive dividends in the future.

Plus Arum has been smart enough to feature Asian fighters in those Macau cards. The Chinese love them some Zou and Pac is an international superstar. Donaire has been there a few times, etc.Last edited by ThePrince; 12-19-2014, 03:36 PM.Comment

And I've learned that Arum is full of it when it comes to viewership. Said one thing about the Zou Shiming show (the first one) and one journalist was forced to retract after learning that Arum had "overestimated" by two zeroes.Comment

No **** Sherlock, he's speaking hypothetically, or is that beyond your capability? Arum comes out with **** numbers relative to their population and these rejects say he's lying again. Wouldn't he have picked a higher number if he wanted to lie?Comment

I'll try not to hurt your feelings again.Comment

They didn't charge anything (not counting TV rights). I was just speaking hypothetically. Arum has plans to open the Chinese PPV market and he's been using these Macau cards to build up the potential audience.
Obviously Boxing is not as culturally entrenched in China as it is in Mexico. But 48 million homes tuning in to an event is impressive regardless of what percentage of the audience it is. As far as I know, this is the first time any promoter has made a concerted effort to court the Chinese market. Considering the economic boom that China is experiencing right now coupled with the American Boxing market becoming stale, it's pretty ingenious.
