Pacquiao-Algieri Watched By 48 Million Chinese Homes

Meanwhile, Arum has revealed that Pacquiao's landslide 12 round decision in the headliner in Macau against the American Chris Algieri – 119-103, 119-103, 120-102 – draw a massive viewing audience from mainland China.

"It was a huge success. Forty-eight million homes watched it," Arum said. "That's effectively over half the population of the UK. Boxing is becoming a major sport in China. I want to build the audience as much as possible before we even think about pay-per-view."

Damn, imagine if they charged like $5 for each of those views. That's an easy $240 million in revenue

Anyhow, that's pretty cool even if that number is being grossly exaggerated. I just hope the Chinese people weren't put off from boxing by bum ass Algieri though.

I seriously doubt they charged anything, especially since their boxing Hero was on the undercard and the sport is fresh and new to the mainstream Chinese audience.

For being a country of over a billion people, those numbers are quite low. Perhaps once the sport grows in popularity in China the numbers would explode, that means Zou keeps winning and seeing as how Amnat is down the road next year, that might be a conflict. Mexico has 1/10th the population of China and it pulls in 20 - 30 million views for the big fighting events, in case anyone was wondering why I think China's numbers are low when the country consist of over 1 billion people.
