Official Toney vs Rahman Thread

Toney's weight is a concern to me, primarily because he's not a natural heavyweight and not used to carrying that load during a championship calibre fight. However, two things still work in Toney's favor. 1. He is extaordinarily well schooled, unlike most big men and 2. Rahman is a classic underachiever.
Toney has beaten champions in 4 weight divisions: Nunn, Johnson (became a titlist at middle and light heavy after the Toney loss), McCallum (first fight was a draw; but a credit to the 23 year old Toney for hanging with one of boxing's elder statesmen), Barkley, Williams (my favorite performance), Jirov, & Ruiz.
Now, granted Holyfield was a former champion; but he was far too old to consider a legitimate opponent at that point....Holyfield might have been dangerous from a size perspective; but he was shot by then. And while Ruiz, IMO, is little more than a journeyman in skill, he still had wins over a younger Holyfield, Rahman, Johnson, Golota, & Oquendo....who were all legitimate contenders when he beat them.
Rahman, on the other hand has failed whenever he has stepped up with one glaring exception, the first Lewis fight....which could be argued as Lewis not taking him seriously and getting caught, especially considering the outcome of the rematch. Rahman's failures when he's stepped up, aka when facing "The Moment of Truth": Tua, Maskaev, Lewis II, Holyfield, Tua II, & Ruiz.
What does all of this mean? It means Toney is a dyed in the wool champion and Rahman is not. The only advantage Rahman has is that he is a naturally bigger man with a bigger punch. If Toney is able to negate that for 12 rounds despite his weight....as he has up until this point....he wins.Last edited by K-DOGG; 03-17-2006, 10:24 AM.

The idea that Thell Torrance is going to make him an educated fighter all of the sudden is to me just fantasy. The Toney that fought Ruiz at a flabby 233 with one arm would win 7-8 of 12 rounds against Rahman (who by the way looked terrible against Ruiz). A muscled up 237 pound toney wins a competitive but increasingly one sided fight, UD 12.

Warning to all who think Toney wins.
Toney is going to lose this fight.
Do not put anything on Toney because it will be gone.
I will put 900,000,000 points on Rahman to win- that is how sure he will win.
And... If Toney wins I do not start any more threads in the forum for one year.

I dont think the weight will affect toney any more than it has affected him in other fights. He weighs aroung the same he did when he fought Ruiz, except he is in better shape.
