We know they're able to pay that so how do they take a loss?

I think by now you realize that the idea of them losing $16m is pretty absurd. Showtime doesn't incur as much expense and what they do can be covered. They're not looking to make $30m off one fight. That would be pretty amazing. But they can make that over the lifespan of a fight. Like if a fight becomes classic and is rebroadcast in whole or parts by another network. I'm not in the television industry, this just seems like basic ****. I'd say they're happy with covering costs, increased exposure and making a few million on the side. What's different about the Mayweather model is that he profits the most and incurs the most expenses. Showtime is merely a marketer and distributor. With a network already in tow, they aren't breaking the bank to air these fights.

No I didn't. I said they have no more PPV money, not that they had nothing else. You're reading comprehension is ****ing terrible, truly. But they could and probably do have more money, they also have a lot more expenses. And while the cost isn't as much as the purse of the main event, neither is the profit from the "other' money they are bringing in.

Also, TV pays people like MLB and the NFL to be on their channel it's not the other way around. They make all their money back from the advertising and you don't need to come up with a network to host a PPV. It has to be approved by DirecTV or any cable provider but they don't ask for a fee to put something on PPV they just skim their cut before anyone else.

For them to be aliased to Floyd is alot of money because non boxing fans(or casuals) can sign up just to see him fight and stay with showtime due to other shows/fights , ppl who thinks they need to make money back on the FIGHT alone just dont understand how television and marketing work ..... they are sponsering him to be the face of their enterprise , Nike arent making money from Jordan actually playing a basketball game , they make millions of the brand value/recognition he built up for them , if Floyd can raise the BRAND VALUE enough (which is a real indicator) then its worth the money , if he cant , its a waste.

I hope it will happens, despite being 4/5 years past it's best. However the same talk happens every year and the fight doesn't get made still.
