There's better, more comfortable ways to get paid. Most boxers do it because they love the thrill and adrenaline rush of combat, enjoy setting and then accomplishing goals (gaining skills, winning a title, keeping a title, etc.) and of course the respect and adoration of the crowd. Many boxers come from rough neighborhoods and are looked down at by the rest of society so there must be some element of being significant and respected.
Every boxer wants to earn the big money but it's more than being rich, it's the knowledge that you are one of the best boxers in the world and therefore can earn huge sums of money. There's the prestige of being a champion boxer, and being the best in your weight class in the entire world. How many people can really be sure they are the best (or one of the best) in their career field in the world? Not many. What a great feeling that has to be.
I'm sure there are plenty of boxers who really just enjoy fighting and hurting people and I'm even more sure that there's a little bit of that in every boxer.
There are a lot of reasons and I'm just scratching the surface here.
