It's easy to sit back and say,"I wouldn't duck anybody... I'm no coward... only a ***** would duck somebody...", and **** like that, but until you're in those shoes, and your livelyhood's at stake, you don't know how you'd react. That's why I say that in certain situations, you've gotta swallow your pride, and take into consideration what's necessary to further your career... good topic of discussion.

Let's Be Honest here: IF you were a decent fighter would you ever duck anyone?

That's the way I feel, as well... as a fan. Being a fan and fighting for a living are two entirely different things. In a perfect world, the fans would decide the matchups, but the world isn't perfect, unfortunately. You've gotta take into consideration that one major loss can cripple a guy's career, and boxing is the only thing most of these guys know. I agree with Raeseed that stepping in the ring alone erases all traces of cowardice in my eyes.

no i wouldnt duck anyone, why duck figthers, if you are a boxer i dont care pro, amateur etc. you shouldnt duck people man, if you dont feel like you can woop anyones ass when you are in the ring, then you shouldnt be in the ring.
no rockin i am not a pro figther but i can tell you that, if you dont feel like you can handle a fight, then you shouldnt be figthing at all.
i understand how young figthers dont take the veteran good figthers but i you have been in the business as long as some figthers have and you just dodge someone because you are afraid of them then you shouldnt be figthing period.

You gotta fight the best to be the best.
I remember my self being scared of street boxing with some kid. Why? Cause he had 1 year expierience also he was taller and bigger than me. But then we put on the gloves and i started to box the **** out of him jabed the **** out of him. yea he caught me with some good shots but i stood up. Everyone thinks he is the best. Not me i went and boxed him and i know and he knows that i don't even box and i put it on him. Now imagine if i were to start training? I mean i am going to start training soon. But what im trying to prove is that you should never duck anyone regardless you gotta beat the best to become the best to gain reputation!
I will never duck anyone. Unless it's life threating.. as in gun to my head lol

It is a real tough call I guess. Imagine if you are at the top already, having won some decent challenging fights. You have a nice house, the cars, family, kids, living a dream life. Now, do you put all this aside to please your fans and the boxing world by going into a fight that can possibly damage you for life, and not just career wise, but physically as well.
Depends on the heart of the fighter I guess. If boxing is always first and foremost before ALL else, then you go out and prove to the world you are the best ever. If you are content with the blessings given to you, then you lay low and enjoy a calm good life.

Yes. Example:
As much as I hate to say, Julio Cesar Chavez should have stayed the **** away from Sweet Pea, not at 147 and especially not after Whitaker wanted no part of him 5 years before. Nobody would have hold it against him if he chose not to fight Pernell.
There are countless other examples.

i see other posters points, that a bad business decision , ie taking a wrong style fight which they may lose or look horrible in, could seriously depress their future earning potential in the sport. however, it must also be considered that these crossroads decisions made by fighters are a function of the lack of a central governing league that engages fighters to work their way through brackets where one loss will simply slide them down but not out.
