Its one thing to be able to do these things as a top pro I guess but to communicate what you didn't have the talent to do to someone who does sounds reasonable.

Take Pernell Whitaker, great fighter but I have seen him work the corner...... not so great really.

He would be the first to tell you he wasn't that good but he did win a lot more fights than he lost. He was a tough come forward fighter but he got hit a lot. I don't think you have to be a great fighter to be a great trainer. Many good trainers never had any pro fights. Eddie Futch taught him how to train boxers.

Tough mid level fighter. He was an ESPN staple always in good fights. He was too tough for his own good and is paying for it now.

He was like Pacquiao except without any talent whatsoever.

              He's like a poor man's Mickey Ward.

In all honesty it's a little unfair to call Roach a poor man's Micky Ward because Ward isn't that good himself and Roach fought during a much tougher era.

Although he wasn't that good he also fought his last few fights with Parkinson's. His weakness was his defence and he is paying for it now.

Although he wasn't a top elite pro, he is for sure one of the greatest trainers.

Some fighters cannot be trainers and vice versa. One example is Pernell Whitaker, doesn't look like he has any great fighters apart when he trained Zab Judah.
