With the recent Bob Arum comments saying that only Mexicans should fight on those Mexican dates, I was just curious to see how do you feel about it? Do you mind if Floyd fights on those dates? Do you want your own people fighting on those dates? Thoughts?
Mexicans/Mexican Americans! How do you feel about Floyd fighting on your holidays?

The Mexican fighter should have those dates especially for what those dates mean for Mexican and Mexican Americans -
Floyd been fighting on those dates for the past 4 years. I didnt see Mexicans complaining then. Mainly because Oscar retired, and there wasn't any true Mexican/Mexican-American to carry the torch, so Floyd took it. Along comes Canelo with a huge fan base and a potential to be pound for pound one of the best, and now all of sudden they got a fighter to carry Cinco de Mayo.
Besides the traditional significance that date holds for Mexicans, it also provides a big weekend for boxing in terms of financial success. Canelo/Cotto could really make a push for 1.5 mill buys if it happens on Cinco de Mayo.Comment

It's funny because his style is so contrary to what Mexican fans typically enjoy.
I suppose it helps them go to sleep after a good drink and party.Comment

I want and to know when fighting on a Mexican holiday was exclusively for Mexicans?
We know it has to be after 2009, because no Mexicans fought in that one because it was Pacquaio-Hatton was on Cinco De Mayo that year.
Oh wait and 2010
Oh wait and 2011
Oh wait and 2012
So when did it start?Comment

Mexican Independence day in September is by far the more Mexican dominated boxing holiday. Everyone from Salvador Sanchez to JCC Sr. fought in September.
Apparently Chango Carmona started the tradition when he beat Mando Ramos in 1972.Last edited by ThePunchingBag; 12-14-2014, 09:21 AM.Comment

/thread .... A ****** thread at that.
FYI, moronic OP ...... cinco de mayo is a Mexican holiday celebrating the Mexican militia's triumph over the French army. It is celebrated within these United States primarily because of the Mexican population migrating to the states. But it is NOT a US celebration, nor is it a US holiday.Comment
