He just figured that Cotto/Canelo would be scared off thinking they'd be competing on the same night as the biggest money fight of all time. Once that happened, he'd go with his usual 'Marquez problems' or 'Showtime only' nonsense to avoid Manny and go with some B or C class easy cash fight instead.

But tonight Bob AND Oscar just pulled his hoe card.

Tell me- why does a Pacquiao-Floyd fight have to be on May 2nd? You could have the fight on a random Tuesday afternoon in the middle of December and it would do a minimum 2.5 million buys.
What sense does that make when Floyd has said his date is May 2nd before Canelo and Cotto were even in negotiations?

You are clearly biased as hell. If Floyd said this you guys would call it a road block. Floyd always says wayyy in advance what date he's gonna fight. But now arum thinks it's disrespectful to not have a Mexican on May 5? Arum controls you guys

Floyd fought on May 5 weekend 3 years in a row but you think he only said it so cotto and canelo don't fight then?

          It's more confusing than anything.

Why would Arum be bothered about Canelo having that date?

I get Oscar, that makes sense him saying that. But why Arum?

I'm sure Arum knows that Mayweather-Pacquaio would blast Canelo-Cotto out of the water, likely causing them to move dates.

            BINGO!

If Cotto/Canelo agree to fight on Cinco de Mayo... what exactly would be the issue with having Pac-Floyd in June, or April, or any other day of next year?

What sense does that make when Floyd has said his date is May 2nd before Canelo and Cotto were even in negotiations?
But Cotto and Canelo are actually making moves to get an actual fight finalized. Oscar says Canelo has already agreed to terms and it seems that the beer sponsor is the only issue left to iron out. Floyd has done what exactly? Give a staged interview where he established even more roadblocks?

AGAIN... why can't the fight be on another date?

                So true.

Arum - "we don't want to fight on Floyd's date (that everyone knows he fights on and has said so months ago)"

                "Another road block from Floyd!"

No but really they should be able to work that out surely. Or maybe it's more smoke and mirrors from Arum like the countdown clock on his website and the stadium being built or his cut healing etc.

Either way this isn't a good sign.

Just switch "date" with "40,000 seat stadium."

                      This sounds a little suspect.

They call out Mayweather, he calls them to fight...Arum doesn't want to because the date he has made fights on before is suddenly disrespectful?
