I saw canelo/Lara live and canelo looked like he had no business in there with Lara I never re watched it now smith did a better job 2 me They both clearly lost but it seemed more competitive with smith canelo was punching air and ropes all night

Lara spent the entire fight weary of Canelo's power and threw little more than jabs most of the time. Lara basically clowned Smith for 11 1/2 rounds and was landing power shots at will. There is a huge difference between landing power shots at will for 12 rounds and landing the occasional jab on your bicycle for all 12.

Lara
29/332 Jabs (9%)
95/237 Power (40%)
124/569 Total (22%)
Smith
11/263 Jabs (4%)
57/309 Power (18%)
68/572 Total (12%)
//-----------//
Canelo
9/183 Jabs (5%)
88/232 Power (38%)
97/415 Total (23%)
Lara
55/246 Jabs (22%)
52/140 Power (37%)
107/386 Total (28%)
Yes, I know SHOStats is not the deciding factor, but that should be enough to realize that they were two completely different fights.

Pretty much it would come down the the force of Canelo's blows (or partial blows) in combination with Lara doing a lot less.
I thought Smith sold out more to put the fight in spots that benefited him, but while that made his offense look better it didn't make his punches any more effective.
Canelo-Lara is a fight where you are finding a sliver of difference between what the two dudes did in like every round.
Lara-Smith Smith put forth a solid effort but it was clear who was winning, smith tried to play the game to make Lara gas but it didn't work out to any great degree (although I think he slowed Lara a bit, it was never enough to bring Lara down to him which isn't surprising because that is not what Smith is as a fighter).
