He could have, but Roy at his best is one of the hardest fighters to beat in boxing history. He'd have to be heavily favored.
Do you guys think Kovalev coulda beaten Roy Jones Jr in his prime?

seriously? just close the thread no offense man, Kovalev would have been owned by a 43 year old Hopkins let alone a prime Jones, different styles i know but the Kovalev bandwagon has become sad, and I think he is a damn good fighter and a decent boxerComment

Oh lord. Kovalev schooled the bejesus out of Hopkins yet somehow a 43 year old version not only beats him but does so in "owning" fashion. Lol.. this is all certain people have to hold onto, fantasy fights. Kovalev is a bad dude and is here to stay.Comment

I was watching RJJ fight Clinton Woods on YouTube and Woods was able to get RJJ back against the ropes on at least a couple of occasions.
Though you think a murderous puncher like Kovalev would be able to KO RJJ with a brutal body shot or break him down gradually if he was able to get Roy Jones Jr near the ropes fairly regularly?Comment

Considering Roy never fought anyone like Kovalev during his prime, or any of his top contemporaries for that matter (Graciano Rocchigiani, Darius Michalzewski, Nunn, Collins, Eubank, Benn), who knows.
Funny you mention Jirov because Jirov tried getting Roy in the ring a number of times, but no - Jirov wasn't a power puncher, and he would've been a hell of alot tougher for Roy than Ruiz.Comment
