LAS VEGAS - After being self-trained for his last three fights, former World Boxing Association (WBA) Light Heavyweight World champion Beibut Shumenov (14-2, 9 KOs) is now working in Las Vegas with highly-regarded Cuban head trainer Ismael Salas.

Salas, who has trained world champions such as Guillermo Rigondeaux, Yuriokis Gamboa, Danny Green, Jesse Vargas and Jorge Linares, is preparing Shumenov for his cruiserweight debut this Saturday night (Dec. 13) against West ******ia fighter Bobby Thomas Jr. (14-2, 9 KOs) in an eight-round bout for the NABA US title, on the Golden Boy Promotions-presented Khan-Alexander card at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

    good for Shumenov...

still, kinda sad to go from defending a championship belt against hopkins to an 8-rounder against some tuna can from the mountains...

Beibut Shumenov the most flat footed fighter to ever fight for a title and a non-entity in the cruiserweight division

Shumenov in my opinion is one of the weak champion in last years included all division's ... and of course one of the least active.

It's hard to be a Shumenov fan when he only fights once every 12-18 months

Hard to feel bad for a dude who got a title belt handed to him by corrupt judges and then sat on it, occasionally fighting nobodies, for more than four years before Hopkins schooled him. Since he really doesn't have any power he'll get hammered at cruiserweight
