You also have to look at the level of competition.

Are you trying to say that Shumenov and Kovalev are fighters that are on the same level?

go watch the shumenov and murat fights......

his legs are gone, if he even remotely tries to dance in the ring, he is off balance, thats why he cant press a fighter, he needs a fighter to come to him

of course when the fight was announced i am gonna ride with bhop but before it was announced i thought it was a bad fight for hopkins fighting kovalev

No I'm not, I'm just saying the performance Hopkins gave to Shumenov as supposed to Kovalev seem his physical clock just stopped dead in its track and it was sad to see Hopkins take that kind of punishment when he has never been dominated like that if ever.

I don't agree with the study. There are many other studies that suggest otherwise. I remember writing a paper in college on the effects of boxing and brain injury. Headgear does prevent injury to the head.

To be honest I actually thought Hopkins would school Kovalev because of Kovalev straight forward style. But it seemed Hopkins literally just had no answer for the pressure he was once accustomed to hence why I thought it was blatantly obvious he aged over night as supposed to the Shumenov scrap.

He didn't age overnight, he came up against a guy who simply punched too hard, gathered with the obvious he was 50yrs of age.

I have no doubt that had a 40yr old Hopkins fought KOvalev he would have sneaked a UD, but an old man who's punching power lets face it probably some of the 180lb posters on here could withstand, was simply not going to win.

Certainly some truth to this. A lot of the people close to Ali say it was his sparring that did the most damage to him, regardless of the wars he had.

It's a huge difference, hence why they have changed the amateur game and removed the headgear, too many top touted am's were coming through with all this hype (no pun intended) and when they got clocked by 8/10oz gloves without headgear everything changed.
They removed the headgear to make it more marketable to a broader audience. The motivation was purely economic in nature.

That said, the mounting medical evidence that headgear doesn't protect from long-term damage supported that move as well. The only issue now is that cuts, headbutts etc. are a huge issue in amateur boxing because of the tournament format. For guys fighting several times a week it's a big deal to get cut.
