Ummm....Maybe because Floyd has just 2 fights left whereas Canelo will be around for many more years making the MGM more money in the future.

But who said it has to be at the MGM?

It doesn't take a genius to know that Floyd vs anyone not named Pacquiao will fail and fail miserably if they were to go up against Canelo/Cotto. It would be financial suicide for Showtime.

Cotto and Canelo headling numbers do nothing to back up this opinion. On paper is Cotto vs Canelo a better fight than Floyd vs Khan? Yes it is.

But when has the majority of non-educated on said topic consumers picked quality over the glitz and glamour of a known commodity?

Cotto/Canelo will do around 1mil buys whether Floyd fights on that date against anyone not named Pacquiao or not. That's 1mil buys that Floyd wont be getting.

Look, The Showtime heads aren't that ******. With Floyd's guarantee they will have to break around 1.2mil buys just to break even. The last time Floyd broke 1mil ppv buys was against Canelo. He vs Khan isn't as big a fight as you think it is. Sure it'll do good numbers on its own, but not if it were to go up against Canelo vs Cotto in May.

Showtime would be crazy to pull the trigger on having Floyd fight someone other than Pac on Cinco de Mayo wknd and go up against Canelo/Cotto.

well let me put it this way, any sane boxing fan who has a choice between cotto vs canelo and floyd mayweather vs anybody not named pacman will watch cotto canelo. common sense.

Again, who are you to decide what the better fight is? What if it is Floyd v khan. I agree that cotto/canelo is a better fight on paper but we are in an era where the better fights (cotto/Sergio and canelo/lara) combined don't outsell floyd/maidana 2.

I know most of NSB wants floyd off the date. cool, But you have to show that you are going to make more money than he does. So far, nothing from cotto or canelo suggests they would.

That fight doing 1mill is never going to happen. You have no basis to even throw out a number like that. Come on man that figure makes no sense at all.

Nobody for a fact knows what showtime needs to break even so I don't debate on that topic.

I never said Floyd vs Khan is a big fight I don't know who the "you" is that you are refering to.

Will Cotto vs Canelo take numbers away from a Floyd fight, it sure would. That fight would even take a small number of buys from a Floyd vs Manny fight. The fact of the matter is casual fans know of Cotto and Canelo as the LOSERS in their fights against Floyd and Manny.

So explain to me why when casual fans see Floyd vs Khan and Cotto vs Canelo both on May 2, 2015 they are more likely to pick Cotto vs Canelo? I am asking only about casual fans nobody else.
