I will have to fundamentally disagree. Do you know why network channels like hbo and Showtime don't carry MMA anymore, because of low veiwership. Boxing still rules the networks,millions of people watch hbo and Showtime for boxing matches that don't include Mayweather and Pac. Believe it or not those events are just as if not more lucrative to a network then PPV. Boxing wasn't born on PPV and sure as hell won't die with out it. Mayweather and Pac are more like a side show, a good side show but a side show none the less.

There was a time when boxing was as relevant as the NBA, NFL, etc. You'd find boxing gyms everywhere. And I mean, everywhere! Today though? It's a ghost town. You really don't hear about much about boxing in the main****** aside from Mayweather and Pacquaio. That wasn't the case before.

MMA moved to more main****** channels, and in turn, became more popular in the main****** than did boxing. Although financially, none of those guys touch the elite boxers. Boxing won't die, but main****** wise, it's literally being carried by Pacquaio and Mayweather. And that is truly sad.

Floyd's guarantee for the Maidana fights was 50% MORE than what Pacquiao took on his fight, and that's before counting any of the upside on the actual event (both events are rumored to have done over 900k PPV buys, and the gates for both events were over $14.5m).

The fight isn't going to be sold on PPV in the Phillipines (and I doubt the actual TV rights fee in the Phillipines is actually all that much), so what grounds are there for Floyd to give 55/45 to anyone?

Manny Pacquiao did just short of $8m at the gate in Vegas, and there's not a venue anywhere where Pacquiao even tops that number without Floyd, if we're being honest.

Pacquiao isn't a bigger star than Mayweather in any part of the world, sans the Phillipines and Macau (mainland China still has issues with Filipinos and there's near no history of support for pro boxing, post Mao).

Now, this is before any upside (for both Pad and Floyd), and before paying out their people (Haymon, Ellerbe, his dad) and Pac (Top Rank, Koncz, Roach).

There were rumors both fights barely cracked 700k from what I heard... THen there were the 900ishk rumors too. Fact is, Showtme REFUSED to release the numbers.. That tells me they were low.

If you do the math, there's not that much upside Floyd took after his guaranteed purse. Maybe another 5-8 million.

I don't agree with about 99% of what check_hooks posts but on the list you responded too, he had a few names that were against the fight who are now calling for it to happen, that was his point and its a good point compared to what you posted. Pac fans are the worst because a fact means nothing to them and they constantly wish pain and death on Mayweather, but Mayweather fans are annoying because they swear up and down boxing will be over when Mayweather retires. Hes the biggest draw in the sport and will probably be the biggest in boxing history, but before him there was Ali, Forman, Tyson, De La Hoya, they're gone and the sports making even more money now. This trend will continue sorry to brake it to you.

I'm not saying that "boxing will be over with Mayweather" (Keith Thurman, Deontay Wilder, Danny Garcia, Erroll Spence, etc are all good enough to emerge as stars and keep things moving); my point is simply that none of the names mentioned in the responded to post have any real say on what Mayweather does.

The circle for Mayweather's decision team is really a small one : Mayweather, Al Haymon, Stephen Espinoza, Richard Sturm, Bruce Binkow, Kelly Swanson.

If Haymon can get the fight teams talking, Espinoza (Showtime) has the backing to market/air the fight, Sturm (MGM Grand) is ready to push the promotional materials in Vegas, Swanson (publicist) handles all of the media relations, and Binkow handles the day-to-day work of putting together the event, Mayweather can fight whomever he wants.

If Espinoza got the call that SHO wasn't going to market any fight but Mayweather-Pacquiao, or the MGM Grand said that they wouldn't host any fight but Mayweather-Pacquiao, or Haymon argued that Mayweather-Pacquiao was the only fight that made any kind of financial sense, there might then be some pressure on Floyd.

none of that has yet to happen, and none of that is likely to happen.

vs Khan (if he gets past Alexander in December), vs Garcia (if he gets past Peterson/Postol January/February 2015), and vs. Cotto 2 (if the Alvarez negotiations fall apart over Cotto dictating terms) are all available for Floyd. If those all fall through, Keith Thurman (if he gets past Bundu and looks good) lso becomes an option before "being pressured" into fighting Pacquiao.

Except it's not tax free, just taxed at a more advantageous rate than in the US and possibly Philippines. Additionally, if it were tax free he would still have to pay taxes on it in Philippines as it was earned income that wasn't taxed by another country.

I'm confused where Golden Boy falls in to any of these negotiations? I can understand Top Rank because of Pacman, but Golden Boy only promotes Mayweather's fights exclusively as necessary. Just another hand in the cookie jar.
